THEATRE WORKERS

CONCILIATION COUNCIL PARTIAL AGREEMENT [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 11. Partial agreement was reached in lhe adjourned Conciliation Council proceedings to-day on the application of the Wellington-Marlborough Theatrical and Places of Amusement Employees’ Industrial Union of Workers for a new award. All outstanding matters are to be referred to the Court of Arbitration.

It was agreed that picture theatre employers shall be at liberty to fix the weekly hours of work for their respective employees according to the exigencies of the particular theatre, but the hours are not to exceed 36 a week in the case of ticket-takers, doorkeepers and other theatre attendants other than caretakers and cleaners, and in the case of ticket sellers, 32. In no case shall more than six hours be worked on any one day without payment of overtime. Overtime shall be at time and a-halt rates for the first three hours and double time thereafter.

Wages for adult males were agreed upon at 14 a week. No agreement was reached on the wages of youths and/or females or other work workers employed as performance workers. A youth is deemed to be a male under 20 years of age. So far as employees in vaudeville, concert, dramatic, operatic, boxing and wrestling entertainments are concerned, the ordinary work of theatre attendants other than caretakers and cleaners shall not exceed two and three-quarter hours nightly and two hours at matinees.

It was agreed that ordinary hours of work for caretakers and Cleaners be 40 a week, to be worked to suit the exigencies of the particular establishment.

There was no agreement on wages, holidays, overtime and termination of engagement of casual workers, uniforms, firemen, stage work or poster;. Questions relating to outdoor amusements are to be referred to the Court of Arbitration.
