Mr C. S. Dickinson, of Westmere, was welcomed as a visitor at yesterday’s luncheon ot the Wanganui Rotary Club. Mr. J. J. Scott, of Wanganui East, who became ill on Thursday last, is an inmate of Wanganui Hospital and is making satisfactory progress. Mr G. F. Baker, of Christchurch, president of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, is visiting Wanganui. Mr W. A. Veitch, who represented Wanganui in Parliament for 20 years, was the speaker at yesterday’s, luncheon of the Wanganui Rotary 1 Club. Mr R. O. Montgomerie, of Kakatahi, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday, and last evening ad-, dressed the Opiki branch of the Farmers’ Union. The city gardener, Mr. S. Cox, has been appointed to represent the Wanganui City Council on the committee of the Wanganui Children's Garden Circle.

Sympathy with Cr. J. J. Scott in his illness was expressed at last night’s meeting of the Wanganui City Council. Cr. Scott, who is an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital, is reported to be progressing favourably.

Mr. W. P. Miller, former district traffic manager for the Railways Department at Wanganui, is to leave the city to-day for Auckland, where he intends to take up his residence. Since his retirement, Mr. Miller has been residing in Wanganui.

Mr. Ken Ballinger, of the Wanganui City Council engineer’s staff, has received an appointment as assistant to the engineer of the Dunedin City Council. Mr. Ballinger has been nearly five years with the Wanganui City Council. He is an ex-pupil of the Wanganui Technical College, and was one of the forwards in their first fifteen Rugby team. He also played for two seasons with Technical Old Boys.

Mr. H. A. Belk, who has represented the Awarua Riding on the Rangitikei County Council for many years, is not seeking re-election. At a recent meeting of the council complimentary remarks were made regarding Cr. Belk, the chairman, Mr. K. W. Dalrymple, stating that they were all very sorry to lose his services. The riding had been very fortunate in the selection of such an able councillor.
