RAETIHI MAYORALTY

MR. L. F. BAIRD JLO STAND (From Our, Own Correspondent) RAETIHI, April 5. , A representative deputation of business men and members of the Raetihi branch of the New Zealand Labour Party waited on Mr. L. F. Baird, solicitor, yesterday, asking him to consider their request that he accept nomination for the office of mayor. In a brief resume of the duties of Mayor, Mr. Baird pointed out that to be fair to all sections of the community and the benefit of Raetihi at large, he would only accept nomination to the position with aji open mind. He would tie himself to no political organisation and would agree to stand solely as an Independent. Other speakers endorsed Mr. Baird s remarks and attitude and it was mentioned that a full ticket of Independents would be put forward. The deputation withdrew after passing a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. Baird for expressing his willingness to stand. BOROUGH COUNCIL Up to the present time the following gentlemen have signified their intention of offering their services on the Raetihi Borough Council: Messrs. J. H. Stanley, storekeeper, Raetihi; W. Harnett, secretary to the N.Z. Workers’ Union, Raetihi branch, and president of the Raetihi branch of the N.Z. Labour Party; J. M. K. Arroll, accountant, Public Works Department, Raetihi.
