LACK OF FREEDOM
DOMINION FACING A CRISIS. LABOUR POLICY CRITICISED. The belief that at the next, general I election the Dominion would be facing ; a crisis in its political history was exI pressed by Professor R. M. Algie organiser of the Auckland Freedom Association, at a meeting on Friday night. Professor Algie said problems confronting New Zealand were no different from those confronting people all over the world. The day when people could shut themselves apart from the rest of the world had gone, yet the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, had said that in the event of another depression New Zealand would isolate itself. There was no chance of isolating this country in another depression, the speaker contended. Some people said why not let the Labour Party work out its policy. Professor Algie said he believed that if that policy were carried out it would mean the ruination of the Labour Party. Professor Algie attacked independent candidates, who, he said, were only in the road. There was no chance of another independent part> getting into power, and an independent had no power In Parliament unless he "was a man of outstanding pel tonality The Labour Party’s system of a guaranteed price fox dairy produce which he said was no guarantee at all. ..as also criticised by the speaket It was a compulsory purchase scheme. It was the method to which he objected, as it took away freedom.
