MAJESTIC THEATRE
“EVER SINCE EVE.” Marion Davies is responsible for a clever comedy performance in “Ever Since Eve,” the entertaining Warner Brothers production which is attracting large and appreciative audiences at the Majestic Theatre. Miss Davies has the role of a very attractive young girl who finds that her work as a secretary is being constantly interrupted by the attentions of her various employers. The climax comes when she obtains work with a firm controlled by three men, and when all three are attracted by her beauty she leaves the position and obtains a very effective disguise. A pair of hornrimmed spectacles, a wig in extreme contrast to her hair, and clothes which are particularly drab work a considerable transformation, and she has no trouble from her next employer, a handsome and carefree young author portrayed by Robert Montgomery. She, however, finds that she is strongly attracted toward him. He, meanwhile, is engaged in a romance with another woman, and it is this that causes the secretary’s resignation. The young author, finding that he needs her for his work, calls at her flat to persuade her to return to the position and sees her without her disguise. Not realising that she is his secretary he falls in love with her and numerous amusing situations result before he realises that the two persons are really one. Further entertainmnt is provided hy Patsy Kelly and Allen Jenkins, who are cast as friends of the secretary, and by Louise Fazenda, as the young author’s publisher. The film was produced for Warner Brothers by Lloyd Bacon. In conjunction with “Ever Since Eve” an attractive programme of shorter features is being screened. This includes some interesting newsreels, in a travelogue. "Cradle of Civilisation,” two entertaining musical features, and a delightful cartoon in colour, “Pigs is Pigs.”
