With the near approach ot winter, when householders are beginning to budget for weekly supplies ot fuel, it is interesting to know that last year the New Zealand railways consumed close on 434,000 tons ot coal, every particle ot which was from rffiw Zealand mines. In addition, nearly 100,000 tons of coke were used in various railway activities. Wherever possible, our Railways Department gives preference to New Zealand products—a patriotic policy of immeasurable value to the community.
