RATANA RAIL ACCIDENT
THE SITTINGS OF THE BOARD The Board of Inquiry set up under the Railways Act to investigate the disaster near Ratana on March 26 will leave Wellington by special train on April 11 to inspect the locality of the derailment. The board will then visit the Railway Workshops at East Town, Wanganui, to examine the rolling stock involved in the accident. On April 13 the board will commence its siltings at the Magistrates’ Court at Wanganui, when evidence of a technical nature from departmental officers will be heard. The board will return to Wellington the following day, April 14, and will then adjourn until after vacation. The board wiJ resume its inquiry in Wellington on April 26 and will, if necessary, return to Wanganui to hear further evidence there. Sittings will also be taken at other centres if deemed desirable. The proceedings will be open to the Press. PROGRESS OF INJURED FIREMAN IS STILL CRITICAL ANOTHER PATIENT FOR DISCHARGE With the exception of the fireman, Mr. Ken Millar, of Wellington, those who were injured in the Ratana railway smash last Saturday, and have been undergoing treatment at the Wanganui Hospital, are show mg encouraging signs of improvement. The fireman’s condition is still critical. Mr. H. V. Squire, of Hinau Road, Haitaitai, Wellington, is to re discharged to-day. He suffered an injury to a foot. Miss Laura McKenzie, of Marine Parade, Seat our., Wellington, was discharged on Thursday, having quickly responded to treatment for bruises to the face and shock. There are still 11 patients in hospital.
