TECHNICAL COLLEGE GAME WANGANUI v. WELLINGTON VICTORY TO FORMER TEAM The two-day cricket match between the first elevens of the Wanganui and Wellington Technical Colleges was concluded at Cook’s Gardens yesterday afternoon and resulted in a victory for the Wanganui eleven by an innings and 144 runs. Wanganui had first use of the wicket on Thursday and scored 30i runs as the result of a tine partnership by Croom (104) and D. Long (69). Wellington had scored 54 ruie> for the loss of five wickets when stumps were drawn on Thursday | evening and continued its innings yes-, terday. The team did not make au i auspicious start, and with the tail; failing to wag, the innings was closed I with 75 runs on the telegraph. Gu> ; was the most devastating bowler, anu; captured six of the Wellington wicket.- j for 21 runs. Ellison took four wickeu i for 34 runs. Wellington followed on, but its sec-1 ond strike was little better, and yield- i ed only 82 runs. Yeoman, one of the | opening batsmen, topped the scoring with 22 runs. With a first innings lead of 93 runs Canterbury is in a strong position in the annual match between the Otago and Canterbury Women’s Cricket Associations for the Mary Machin Shield which was commenced this • morning. Canterbury batted first and a valuable partnership between Misses M. Marks and J. Webster early in the innings, added 83 to the score of 146. Otago, handicapped by the absence from the team of the New Zealand representative, Miss M. Hollis, fared badly and was dismissed for 53. The match will be continued to-mor-row. For Canterbury the principal scorers were Miss Marks (48), and Miss Webster (36). Miss Bishop took five wickets for 29, and Miss Fisher five for 50. For Otago Miss Riach was tonscorer with 13.
