UNFORTUNATE PAUSE ,

MR. A. HAMILTON'S SPEECH AMUSEMENT OF AUDIENCE A pause in his speech, put in at the wrong moment, was responsible for the momentary discomfiture of the Hon. Adam Hatnilton, Leader of the Opposition, and amusement on the part of the audience at a political meeting in Hastings last week. Mr. Hamilton was in the midst of a criticism of the Labour Party when he remarked: "If there are any evils in this country, I am one—” It was here that the pause become evident and the laughter commenced. “You got a good laugh at my expense that time,” remarked Mr. Hamilton, who went on to say that he was one who felt that these evils must be removed.
