MARCH A DRY MONTH LESS THAN INCH RECORDED With only a total rainfall of .83 the | past month in Wanganui district was the driest experienced for at least a quarter of a century. The intermittent rains fell on seven days and the maximum was .31, recorded on March 21. Taken collectively the summer has been dry and often very humid. The total rainfall in February was 1.69 inches, compared with 4.66 in January. For this season of the year the temperatures are still very warm, and the weather delightful for all sections of the community, but farmers would, at the same time, like to see more rain in order to ensure a growth of grass for winter feed before the frosts set in. ! The highest maximum tempera- j I ture of 80 degrees was recorded on; [March. 17, the mean maximum tem- ! perature was 73.8 degrees Fahr., and 'lhe lowest minimum 45.1 degrees I Fahr. The mean temperature for the I month was 58.2 degrees and the lowi cst grass minimum 40.5 degrees, rei corded on March 7. The highest shade temperature for February was 8.2 degrees, and for January 86.1 degrees. The aggregate sunshine for March was 215.8 hours, and lor January 283.8 hours, and February 150.2 hours. During March iast. year there waa a considerable amount of rain but i the Government meteorological station in Cook’s Gardens was not then [ established so no comparison of I readings can be made.
