WOOL TRADE
NEW ZEALAND CLIP DESTINATION OF SHIPMENTS Less wool was offered and sold in New Zealand during the first six months of the current season, compared with the same period of the previous season. Offerings totalled 160,448 bales, a reduction of 10 per cent, on those of the first half of the previous season, probably due to the small quantity of wool carried over. The number of bales sold fell by 22 per cent, to 138,214 bales, indicating the early tendency to hold stocks against the possibility of a rise in the market. The quantity of wool exported during the first six months of the 1937-38 season showed a reduction when compared with exports during the same portion of the previous season, shipments aggregating 132,052 bales against 142,853 in the previous period. The value of the export:; during JulyDecember, 1937, however, rose by £319,648 to £2,763,504. Countries which bought more than 1000 bales of New Zealand wool during the first half of the present, season, together with purchases over the same period last season, are:—
