“MOYE” RUGBY SCHEME
INCLUSION OF TAIHAPE A COMBINED CONFERENCE MATTER NOW ALMOST FINALISED A conference of delegates representing the Wanganui Metropolitan, Taihape and Rangitikel Rugby Union, was held at Wanganui last night for the purpose of adopting a set of conditions tor promotion oli what is kowi. as the "Moye Rugby Scheme,” embracing clubs in the unions named With some minor adjustments the set of conditions circulated to unions prior to the meeting were approved, with the exception of that clause relating to the playing of the firs', round of the competition. Difference.-, of opinion arose on that and it wa. finally left to the Rangitikel and Taihape delegates to meet and endeavom to frame some workable scheme tc cover the first round. The following delegates attended. Messrs J. Moye, C. Stewart, H. Whiting and J. C. Ward (Metropolitan), J. Quirk, C. Mullany, A. Smith, J. C. Whibley (Taihape), R. C. S. McKenzie, L. Bull and C. Price (Rangitikel), together with the secretary of the Metropolitan Union (Mr C. S. Swan?. Mr Moye was elected chairman ant. he welcomed the delegates. Mr McKenzie suggested at the outset that the rules be broadened to permit clubs in all sub-unions in the Wanganui district to be included.— The matter was let stand as at present.
General discussion took place on tlu proposed rules to govern scheme, the first stumbling block coming from an announcement from the Rangitiku delegates that they were tied to o decision of their annual meeting that the sub-unions play the first round ol the proposed scheme separately and not in the northern or southern divisions. Mr Bull said that it woulu kill the scheme at the outset if the country clubs, which were untrained, had to play city clubs right away. Citj' clubs would have the benefit ol training much earlier than players in the country.
Taihape delegates pointed out. chat delay until the second round would leave Taihape with five playing Saturdays and only two teams to play, interest in the “Moye Scheme” had become very keen m Taihape, and ah that interest would be lost it the first round was played separately by each union.
It was finally decided on that point that the Taihape and Rangitikel delegates confer and endeavour to come to some amicable arrangement to permit play taking place in divisions m the first rounu instead of in unions. A decision was made to set up a postponement committee consisting ol one representative for each union. So far as the draw of fixtures wa.concerned it was decided that a fixtures committee, representative of the three unions, make the draw and submit it to the unions. It was decided that all final games in which a Wanganui team is to participate be played in Wanganui, irrespective oi the draw, and that the visiting team receive one-thitd o- the gate and stand takings. In the eveiu of the two finalists coming from Rangitikei and Taihape, the place where the game be played shall be decided mutually betwen those two unions. On Mr Mu Hany’s suggestion it was decided to ask the Wanganui Union, :i necessary the New Zealand Union, for a grant to enable the scheme to be launched.—-This matter was referred to the annual meeting of the Wanganui Rugby Union.
