The Daily Telegraph’s correspondent at Barcelona says: “Technicians have identified Thursday’s bombs as being of a new and powerful German type. The German General Staff is believed to be opposed to their use, preferring to reserve them for a European conflict, but Field-Marshal Goering insisted on testing their efficiency. ‘‘The Loyalist troops; heavily reinforced, apparently formed a line of resistance from east of Capse to east of Alcaniz district, where the main rebel column is concentrated. Another is operating in the Codonera district and another round Capse. The total strength is 150,000. "Two shiploads of German war material leave Italian ports daily for the rebels.” BRITISH NOTE TO FRANCO FRANCE ASKS V ATICAN TO JOIN IN APPEAL Received March 21, 10.50 p.m. LONDON, March 21. The Times says that the British Note to General Franco on the bombing of Barcelona reminds General Franco that such attacks are contrary to the principles of international law and every dictate of humanity and public opinion. It is understood that France has asked the Vatican to join in an appeal to end the bombing of the open town. It is felt that General Franco may heed the appeal from the Vatican because he rarely misses an opportunity of declaring his allegiance to the Roman Church "FINISH OFF SPAIN” CZECHOSLOVAKIA NEXT DUCES MESSAGE TO FUHRER. LONDON, March 20. Madame Tabouis, the famous French woman correspondent, in an article in the Sunday Referee, declares that she has been informed from a semi-official quarter that Signor Mussolini has sent a message to Herr Hitler stating that the time has come to finish off Spain and start on Czechoslovakia.
