CHINA WILL LOSE BATTLES
BUT JAPAN WILL LOSE WAR [ Per Pr«i Association. ) AUCKLAND, March 18. "All the evidence is that China will lose all the important battles but Japan will lose the war simply because she will be unable to hold down such vast areas of hostile territory. Further, it is probable Japan will be forced into such an acute economic crisis that the present military leaders will be forced to give up a great deal of their continental ambitions." This opinion was expressed by Mr, W. L. Holland, Research Secretary of the Institute of Pacific Relations of New York, formerly of Timaru, who arrived by the Monterey, accompanied by his wife, formerly of Auckland, on a holiday visit to New Zealand and Australia. “The greatest thing about the Sino-Japanese war has been the astounding solidarity of the Chinese people," said Mr. Holland, who spent some time in China during the present conflict. “This solidarity is shown both by the armies and the common people."
