EARLY MORNING FIRE
EIGHT-ROOMED RESIDENCE I DESTROYED i FAMILY MAKE TIMELY EXIT , An eight-roomed residence owned | and occupied by Mr. Exton 1* xciclier. on the River Bank Road two miles > above the Aramoho Bridge, was de-! stroyed by fire at an early hour yesterdav morning. Together with his wife and three children, Mr. Fletcher escaped from the blazing building in the few clothes which they had time to don in the smoke and heat. At approximately 3 a.m. the husband was awakened by the crackling of flames, and hastily arousing his family, made for safety. They had no recourse but watch their home burn to the ground, for no water was available and the residence was ou‘side the area of the Wanganui Fire Brigade. No furniture was saved from the conflagation. The cause of the Are is not definitely known, hut it is conjectured that the outbreak started in the kitchen near a stove. The building, which was of wood, was built some 20 years ago. Insurances, which are with the Union Company, total £l3OO on the house and £450 on the furniture and contents.
