SCHOOL CRICKET

WANGANUI collegiate school DEFEAT POREWA The all-day cricket match between the Porewa Club and the lirst eleven of the Wanganui Collegiate School, played at Marlon on Wednesday, resulted in a comfortable win for the visitors by 71 runs on the lirst innings. Conditions were very lavourable for cricket. The School had lirst use of the crease, Reynolds and Nairn scoring 7-1 for the lirst wicket. Five wickets were down for 153, when there was a decided slump, the remaining batsmen being sent pavilionwarcis »viai only nine runs added, the tenia wicket tailing at 162. H. R. Marshall bowled welj in capturing live wickets lor 56. Porewa’s innings was simply a procession, A. B. Marshall scoring all out 30 of the runs. His 61 included live fours. His brother, B. M. Marshall, was secund top-scorer, r ive vvicke.s were down for 38 and the sixth fell at 50, seventh at 59 and eighth at 91. Five batsmen failed to score. Jeffeid took four wickets for 16 runs. School went to the crease a second time and declared with 87 on the board for me loss ot iuur wickets. This left Porewa 158 runs to win, ! an impossible task in the time left for : play.
