ORE ORE FUNCTION. ; On Saturday last the above picnic | was held in a paddock on Mr. D. McLean’s property. The proceedings comImenccd with luncheon, which was followed by lollie and peanut scrambles. A programme of racing was then [undertaken and this was completed [just as a torrential downpour forced an adjournment to the school where the successful competitors received their prizes. In spite of the rain most of the young folk went swimming and thus finished a day that will remain a pleasant memory to the youngsters, if not to the adults, who were forced to spend much time in the shelter of their motor-cars. The following were the winners of the various events:— Men’s race: C. Boyd 1, F. Tocker 2, T. Rowe 3. Ladies’ race: Miss M. Robertson 1, Miss G. Soar 2, Mrs. R. Lilburn 3. Girls’ race: Joyce Tocker 1. Peggy O’Neil 2. Pat Tocker 3. Small boys’ race: Cyril Smith 1, Ross Boyd 2, John Tocker 3. Senior boys: Tom Tocker 1, Chum Forsyth 2, George Ruke 3. The success of the function under the most difficult conditions was due to the efforts of Mr. T. Rowe, (head teacher) and the members of lhe School Committee, headed by the chairman ( /r. C. Boyd). Mrs. H. Sommerville very ' kindly presented lhe prizes. ADJUSTMENT C OMMISSION. The sittings of the Main Trunk Adjustment Commission which were set down 1o take place at Raetihi during this week have been adjourned for one mo.ith on account, of the serious illness of the chairman, Mr. I. V. A. Dobbie, of Ohakaune Mr. Dobbie was injured recently in a motor-car accident near Owhango. 1 His injuries have proved more serious than was at first believed and Mr. Dobbie is now a patient in the Wanganui Hospital. TENNIS NOTES . On Sunday next a further series off matches is to be completed by the } Raetihi Tennis Club. The “A" team is scheduled to travel ; to Ohakune Junction 1o contest with the Ohakune Railways Club, the first round of the Butler Shield competition. The Raetihi courts will be the scene of a visit from representatives of country tennis courts in the MangaeIturoa and Parapara districts. i Teams will be selected and posted jin the club pavilion at the latter end of the week. OBITUARY. The passing away of the late Mr. J Frederick Edward Mann at the Auckland Hospital on January 28 last rei moved one whose association with the j Raetihi district had extended over a i period of 30 years. The late Mr. Mann was 67 years of ago and until I his depart ure, in 1930. he was a . familiarly known and highly respected i resident of the Waimarino. Deceased I will he remembered as the manager of the Pacraroa sawmill for a number :of years. He was also a member of [lhe Raetihi Bowling Club, the Waimaino A.P.H. and I. Association and lhe local Masonic Lodge. The late Mr. Mann was a former chairman of the Mangaeturoa School Committee. The funeral took place at Onehunga.
