DEATH IN SURF
FATALITY AT ( ASTLEC LIFE TRAGIC END TO BEACH CAMP The death of William Harry Limm, aged 15 years and 10 months, son of Mr and Mrs H. Limm, of Durie Vale Road, Wanganui, occurred in the surf at Castlecliff yesterday morning. 11 was primarily thought, that drowning was the cause, but later developments suggest that heart failure brought about his end. The body was washed up on the beach at 3 p.m. Together with another youth. Leonard Addenbrooke, of Gibson Street, Aramoho, Limm, on Tuesday, made camp at the cliffs end of the beach, intending to stay there for several days. Yesterday morning, shortly before 11 o’clock, the two boys went down to the beach for a swim, and the deceased was slightly further out in the water when Addenbrooke called out that he was returning to the beach. He reached the firm sand, and on looking round observed that his friend had disappeared. He did not hear any cry or sound from him.
Addenbrooke told several people of Limm's mishap, setting out for Constable W. I. Trask who, together with members of the surf section went to the scene of the fatality. A reel was taken by motor-car from the Surf Club’s shed, and with the aid of this swimmers ventured into the breakers, diving and searching for the missing youth. Their efforts were unavailing, however, and it was not until the tide receded in the afternoon that the body was washed up a short distance from the spot where the boy had disappeared earlier in the day. A fishing net was used in the search, and it is thought that this may have disturbed the body and caused it to come ashore. An inquo-.t into the cause of death is o’, be held this morning.
