MAIN HIGHWAYS BOAKII VISIT TO BULLS On Wednesday morning members ol the Mam Highways Board visited Bulls, the following comprising the party: Messrs M. It. Wynyard (act-ing-chairman), C. J. Talbot (membei representing N.Z. counties), J. W. Scott (Government member), G. VV. Albertson (highways engineer), G. W. Knapp (secretary), K W. Lindnp (district representative), and G. W Sampson (Wanganui resident engineer).
Messrs J. E. Walker and J. J. Mansell represented the Bulls Town Board. Mr Walker welcomed the
visitors, and asked that two coats of tar-sealing be placea on main highways in “the Town Board’s area. Mi Wynyard promised mat this would undone within a fortnmhi. Mr Walker said that the Rangitikei County Council wished to have Parewanui Road taken in as a main highway, and if that was done, the Town Board wished to have that portion of High Street from the bank corner to Parewanui Road included also. Mr Wynyard replied th|H High Street would certaimy be connected with the Parewanui Road section when the road was taken over by the Mair Highways Board.
Another matter mentioned by Itli Walker was the Town Bridge, which was not lit to carry the heavy trailic, being a one-way structure, which had been in use for many years. The Hon. R. Semple had inspected the bridge, and had promised to take up tne question of a new and more up-to-date structure. Mr Hunter, M.P., had promised before last election to push the matter on also. Mr Wynyard said that as soon as the engineers could get out plans, the bridge would be gone on with. Mr Walker thanked Mr V/ynyard and others of the party for their visit, and cordial reception. The visitors were afterwards enter- : tained at morning tea.
SHOW RING SUCCESSES Mr T. L. Mansell scored the following successes at the Levin Show on Friday and Saturday last: Qualified hunters’ competition (open to horses owned by members of the Manawatu Hunt Club), Mr T. L. Mansell’s Glendowic first. By winning this competition for the third consecutive time, Mr Mansell wins the Linklater Cup outright. Best lady’s hunter: Glendowic first. Open hunters’ competition (for Mr J. J. Waller's silver cup): Glendowie first. District hack (most suitable to carry Ist.; open to Horowhcnua district norses): Mr T. L. Mansell's Madcap second. TWILIGHT SPORTS This evening another of the series of twilight sports meetings will be held on Bulls Domain. A good programme of running and cycling events is listed, and the attendance should be large. commenced duties again at the Kohi School. Mrs L. Davidson has been the guest of her mother, Mrs W. Powell. Miss Eileen Oliver has been spending a holiday in Wanganui. CROQUET. On Tuesday afternoon the second match with Patea for the McL’Dowie Cup was played on the local lawns, resulting in a win for Waverley. Mrs. i Alexander and Mrs. Bromiley won from Mrs. Spooner and Mrs. Thompson. Mrs. Sheppard and Mrs. Thomas won from Mrs. Hunger and Mrs. HurButtons. Mrs., Thomas and Miss Cleary won from Mrs. Shearman and Mrs. Alsxander. Further games have been played in he Yankee tournament with the following results:— Mrs. Bromiley lost to Mrs. Beer. Mrs. Pepper won from Mrs. Hegen- ] botham. PERSONAL. Mrs. and Miss Taylor, New Plymouth, are visiting Mrs. Taylor’s sister, Mrs. W. Muir. Miss Jean McGregor is paying a short visit to her father, Mr. I. McGregor, before leaving for D’Urville Island. Mr. and Mrs. S. Bromiley sail on Saturday by s.s. Maunganui, for Nie Bluff via Milford Sounds, catching the Maunganui on her return from Melbourne. They will visit their daughter, Mrs. Keith Allen, at Invercargill, where Mrs. Bromiley will take part, in the croquet tournament there.
