AUCKLAND TO WELLINGTON JOt RNEY BY RAIL-CAR I Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Feb. 2. ; The rail-car Arai-Te-Uru, with the General Manager of Railways, Mr G. H. Macklcy, and other departmental officers, left Auckland this morning at 8.35 a.m. and arrived at Wellington at 7.35 p.m., after making stops for inspection and other purposes aggregating 75 minutes. The actual running time for the 426 miles was 9 hours 45 minutes. On arrival at Wellington, Mr. Mackley stated that the performance of the rail-car throughout the long journey was, as indicated by the actual running time, equal to tire most optimistic expeditions. The weather was perfect, which enabled those travelling by the rail-car to see the King Country and other portions of the route at their best. ’ The journey to-day,” stated Mr Mackley, “demonstrated in a practical xvay the advantages of rail-car travel for tourists and others whe desire to view the scenic beauties of the Main Trunk line under onditions xvhich enable the journey to be done with the maximum of comfort and the minimum loss of time.”
