GIFT TO AUCKLAND

J JON ROCK AND RESER YE [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Feb. 2. The estate of the late Sir Algernon Thomas, K.C.M.G., formerly emeritus professor, Auckland University College, is valued for probate at £40,000. To carry out a wish expressed by the late Sir Thomas, members of the family are presenting as gifts to Auckland city, the historic Lion Rock, and 100 acres of native bush 'at Piha, on the West. Coast, about 30 miles from Auckland. Lion Rock is a huge rugged landmark at one of the favourite West Coast beaches surrounded by water at high tide. It is proposed that a portion of the park will be used as a camping ground for organised parties ot young people from Auckland.
