CHINA CLIPPER
Flight Interrupted Again MECHANICAL TROUBLE (By Telegraph—Press Association- Copyright) Received Jan. 27, 5.55 p.m. HONOLULU, Jan. 26. The China Clipper was forced back owing to motor trouble when two hours out en route to Midway Island. It landed safely with 14 passengers. A telegram from Alamcia, California, on January 22, staled that Pan-American Air . i had an;;.u.;r.ced that the China Clipper had experienced mechanical trouble when 700 miles out at sea, and was return..» to California. The Clipper left San Francisco the previous evening and turned back at 2 a.m. the following day. The craft was in no danger and her motors were functioning perfectly. There were eight passengers and six of a crew on board. Captain J. H. Tilton radioed later that he intended to land at Los Angeles owing to a ground fog at Alameda. He duly carried out that intention, landing at 9.35 a.m.
