RUMOUR DENIED

TYPHOID OUTBREAK NO CASE IN FOUR MONTHS ROTORUA, Dec. 26. A rumour that a serious outbreak of typhoid fever had occurred in the Rotorua district had gained considerable credence throughout the North Island over the week-end, according to reports received in Rotorua tonight. It was stated that visitors arriving in Rotorua for the holiday period from outside districts were being subjected to a thorough medical examination. A vigorous denial of the rumour was given by the district health officer, Mr. J. Wark, to-night, who said he had not had a case of typhoid within four months. As the rumour might influence visitors who intended making Rotorua their headquarters for the holiday season, every effort is being made by the authorities to refute the story.
