SHOP LIFTING ALLEGED

MAORI WOMAN CHARGED REMANDED FOR A WTEEK. Detective-Sergeant J. K. Robertson and Detective N. VV. Bayliss arrested a Maori woman in Victoria Avenue yesterday and later, before justices, charged her with shoplifting. The name the accused gave the police was Pare Ara, and she stated that she came from Taihape, was married, and 25 years of age. The police alleged that she lifted goods to the value of £2 17s sd. She was remanded formally to January 5, bail being allowed in two sureties of £25 each.
