i CHRISTMAS AT CANNES AERO CLUB'S HONOUR CANNES, Dec. 26. , The Duke and Duchess of Windsor received an original Christmas gift from the Cannes Aviation Club, which is a most exclusive organisation. It consisted of the club’s badge executed in gold and silver, which the president presented on a cushion with violets and wattle, forming the colours of the City of Cannes.
KING HOLDS COUNCIL MEETING AT SANDRINGHAM LONDON, Dec. 26. Alter attending service at Sandringham Church in the morning, the King held a council at 6 p.m., which included the Dukes of Kent and Athlone, with Lieut. J. L. Mieville and Commander Charles Lamb in attendance. PURPOSE OF THE COUNCIL ROYAL ASSENT TO ENGAGEMEN.I PRINCES FREDERIKA AND PRINCE PAUL. Received Dec. 27. 11.17 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 27. It is understood that the Council that the King held yesterday was for the purpose of securing a Royal assent to the marriage of Princess Frederika of Brunswick, to Prince Paul, of Greece, which was formally granted.
CHRISTMAS IN U.S.A. UNUSUALLY QUIET CELEBRATION' AT WHITE HOUSE NEW YORK, Dec. 26. Christmas in the United States was an unusually quiet holiday. There were no major disasters. Four generations of the Roosevelt’s celebrated Christmas at White House. Mrs Roosevelt did not participate, but instead vidted her daughter and grandchildren in Seattle. Violent deaths throughout the nation totalled 135 by midnight, mostly due to traffic accidents. New York streets and subways were almost deserted during the day. There was no rain and occasional sunshine. There were fewer elaborate parties and most of the celebrations were confined to family gatherings.
