CHRISTMAS PARTIES AT JUNCTION At last Father Christmas has arrived at the Junction. Every railway child has anxiously been waiting for the annual Christmas tree for which that gallant band of ladies worked so hard all the year and at last he has been. On Saturday last in the Railway Hall, the Christmas tree was well laden with wonderful toys and presents for the party. Father Christmas arrived by car and at once began giving away the presents. Ice-creams, sweets and fruit were also given to each child. The hall was crowded and there were a large number of parents and onlookers to enjoy the merry two hours’ fun. The committee responsible for the event are to be congratulated on the very fine display and for their work throughout the year. Already they are preparing for another dance on New Year’s Eve, in conjunction with the Cricket Club, and we wish them every success, for the cause is a worthy one, a Christmas tree for the children in 1938. RANGITIKEI CRICKET TEAM TO PLAY WANGANUI BOYS’ ASSOCIATION The Rangitikei eleven to play against the Wanganui Boys’ Association eleven at Marton on Thursday, December 30, has been selected as follows. (Any player not available is to notify the selector, Mr D. A. Cameron. or the secretary, Mr P. Williams, immediately):—C. S. Beechey, i H. Towers, S. S. Powell, R. Shield, W. Tolley, A. B. Marshall, A. Duncan, R. Baker, N. V. Rix-Trott, R. Parkinson, and R. Cameron; 12th man, P. Williams; reserves, R. Gordon and D. McLennan. R. Whitcombe, S. A. Mcindoe, 1. Jolly, R. Parkes and L. Smith were not available. “FAREWELL AGAIN” AT CIVIC THEATRE Adding further fuel to the story v. star controversy, producer Erich Pommer tried an interesting casting experiment in his latest film, “Fare-
well Again,” which comes to the Civic Theatre to-night and to-morrow afternoon and evening. “Farewell Again” boasts of no obvious star name, no Laughtons nor Oberons, yet it has one of the strongest casts ever presented in any film. There are 25 important parts and each one of them is filled by an accomplished and popular actor. But you will look in vain for glamorous personalities. An interesting and moving sidelight on army life, the story is based upon an incident which actually happened and was widely reported in the newspapers. And in addition to the above will be screened “Walt Disney’s Academy Award-Review.” The five greatest cartoons made in one grand show and producing fifty minutes of fun.
