AUSTRALIA BEATS U.S.A. DISPLAYS AT SYDNEY BROMWICH DOWNS BUDGE Received Dec. 19, 7.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 19. Australia defeated America by four rubbers to one in the tennis Test. Quist defeated Mako 6—o, 6 -4. 6—4. Bromwich defeated Budge 6- -2, 6—3, B—lo, 6—4. Quist had a hollow win, being unextended at any stage. Mako’s game was full of errors from simple returns and wild shots. The outstanding match of the tie resulted in a splendid win for the New South Wales junior Bromwich, who kept great length in his drives and exploited weaknesses in Budge’s forehand. Bromwich was steadiness personified and easily returned the American’s fastest services. Budge found net excursions unavailing. The Australian recovered from o—3 in the third set to ’cad 5—3. He then lapsed but made no mistake in the fourth set when he picked up from I—4. MATCH AT TRISBANE AUSTRALIANS DEFEAT GERMANS Received Dec. 19, 7.5 p.m. BRISBANE, Dec. 19. In the international tennis match Australia was conceded a win against the Germans. Failing light stopped the doubles when the game was two sets all. McGrath beat Henkel o—6, 6—l, 6—2. Von Cramm beat Crawford 6—3, 6—4. Crawford and McGrath were leading Von Cramm and Henkel 7—5, 3—6, I—6,1 —6, 12—.10 (unfinished).
