LAMB MARKET FIRM
HERTFORD SHIPMENT SELLS AT 9 Id. LONDON STOCKS SHORT. Lamb market: Very firm with spot stocks still short. Old season's exhausted. Small quantity of new season’s ex Hertford, selling at 9id ex hooks. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes firmer owing to smaller prospective supplies. Beef market: Frozen beef, steady trade at unchanged prices. Chilled beef, hindquarters shade firmer; fores unchanged. N.L porker pigs: Firmer on the better consumption. N.Z. baconer pigs: Shade firmer with stocks light. The above report was received on Friday by the Meat Board from its London office which advises that the following are the ruling prices of ■ wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the gods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market:— N.Z. sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 481 b. and under, 6d; 491 b. to 561 b., 51d; 571 b. to 641 b., sd; 651 b. to 721 b., 4Ud; ewes, 481 b. and under, 4 3-8 d; 491 b to 561 b, 3 7-8 d; 571 b. to 641 b., 33d; 651 b. to 721 b., 3id. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from theii London agents, dated December 16: Frozen moat quotations unaltered; market continues firm all round. Henry S. Fitter and Sons, Ltd., have received the following report from their London office:—Lambs: The market is short of supplies; prices nominal. Wethers: The market is firm, but there is little business doing. Ewes: There is a fair demand. Chilled beef: The market is steady. Pork: There is a fair demand. Trade generally is fair.
