Mr. W. T. Graham, the well-known missionary, has finalised arrangements to give an address at CastleCliff Town Hall to-morrow evening in aid of the Chinese relief fund. The meeting is to take place at 8.30 p.m. and there will be special music at 8.15. The hall is being provided free by members of the Labour Party, and the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, will preside.

The death occurred at Tauranga on Wednesday of Miss F. M. Corby, who was born in Nelson, but resided in Wanganui for over 55 years. She went to the Auckland district some few years ago. The late Miss Corby was well known to many of the older inhabitants of this city, and was highly respected. She was a sister of Messrs. W. S. and D. Corby, of Wanganui.

Mrs. D. C. Tennent, who died at Waverlcy last week, was an old resident of Marton. Born at Greymouth in 1859, Mrs. Tennent lived at Marton from 1882 until 1910, when she resided at Wanganui until Mr. Tennent died in 1912. Since then she lived with members of the family, which comprises Mesdames E. J. P. Simpson (Woodville), Robert Todd (Invercargill), A. V. Oliver (Greymouth), H. Boyer ("Marholm,” Waverlcy), E. Olliver (Pleasant Point, Timaru), and Messrs. P. D. Tennent (Waverley), J. G. Tennent (Hawera) and W. C. Tennent (Taupo).

Mr. G. Snadden, first assistant teacher at the Gonville School, who been promoted to the position of headmaster at Hunterville, was farewelled at Gonville yesterday. Mr. W. A. Brown (headmaster of the Gonville School) spoke of Mr. Snadden’s capabilities as a teacher and of the indebtedness the speaker felt he owed him for assistance and the keen interest he had taken in the “Learn-to-Swim” Week, and in training pupils for life-saving certificates. Mr. Brown’s remarks were endorsed by Mr. J. N. Marshall, who spoke of the excellent relationships between Mr. Snadden and the other teachers. Mr N. L. Tyler (chairman of the committee) made reference to assistance rendered to the committee by Mr. Snadden on the occasion when he was acting headmaster. A presentation was made of a copy of Kipling’s poems by Mr. Brown on behalf of the staff. Mr. Snadden suitably replied. Opportunity was also taken to bid farewell to Mr. J. D. Finnie, who has completed his year’s term as probationary assistant at the school, Mr. Brown extending to him the good wishes of the staff lor future success.
