Wellington's first Plunket Shield cricket engagement this season will be with Canteibury, the match to be played at the Basin Reserve commencing on December 31. The fact that several leading players are not available is handicapp.ng the selector (Mr. A. W. Duncan) in hi*? endeavours to place the strongest possible side in the field, and it is particularly in regard to the bowling de partment that the position is difficult. A preliminary selection ol reveh-tc-cn players has been mad? in view ot the match with Canterbury, and tris in.dudes six players from the country restricts. In the interests of the players an early announcement of the actual team is necessary, and for. that reason any of the players in the selector’s list who are not avadar»!e arc requested to notify the secretary of the We-'ington Cricket Association at the earliest opportunity. The selection is as follows: W. S. Coltman (Kilbirnie). M. Thomas (Wellington). S. Ward (Kilbirnie). M. A. O Brien Jlawke’s Bay). M. P. Donnelly (Taranak /. W. Bam (Kilbirnie . I-J. W.
