ST. ALBAN’S SCHOOL

PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY A programme of country dances, singing, games, exercises and choruses and a display of work, provided interesting entertainment for the parents and visitors who attended the break-up ceremony of St. Alban's School, held yesterday in the GlasgowStreet Hall. The display of exercises and country dances were given on the floor in the centre of me hall, the visitors, who watched with keen interest, sitting in a circle, the chairs later being arranged in the usual rows facing the stage. Items given by the younger pupils were •‘FairyRevels,” "Ba, Ba Black Sheep,” "Little Girl,” "Climbing Trees,” “v.'ill You Please Be My Partner." The uppei school gave "Quand Trois poules Vont auxchamps,” "Hilda Had a Garden," "Marketing,” "All Through the Night,” "The Wind,’ "Cobwebs.’ The numbers were veiy attractive, and the children, in their pretty white party frocks and coloured shoes and hair ribbons, entered thoroughly into the happy spirit of each number, reflecting credit on Miss V. Craig and her assistants, Miss Featherstone and Miss Parkes. Miss Craig gave a brief resume ol the activities of the year, and said that what the parents had seen was what the children did in school. They chose their own entertainment from the school work. Miss Craig thanked the parents and friends for special kindnesses shown, mentioning the great interest shown by several in the welfare of the school. Mrs W. Peat, who presented the prizes, said how pleased she was to be with them and how much she had enjoyed the performance. She congratulated them on the items given and also on the school gardens, concluding by wishing them a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. That the womanly arts are not yet a thing of the past was shown in the display of sewing and handcrafts done during the year. The work was excellent and the stitching would have done credit to grown-ups. The exhibition comprised sewing, aprons, frocks, pyjama suits, petticoats; handwork, kettle-holder and purses in wool work, kitchen-wall pockets, complete with kettle-holders; the elder pupils showing work baskets, raffia work and some very useful telephone pads with parchment covers in the children’s own design. Three cheers were called for Mrs Peat, the visitors and teachers. Among those present were; Mr and Mrs R. G. Taiboys, Mr and Mrs Brettargh, Mr and Mrs Trengrove, Mr anu Mrs H. B. Knight, Mr and Mrs A. J. Weekes, Miss Stanford, Miss C. Stanford; Mesdames C. F. Treadwell, Vaughan, D. McFarlane, S. Burnett, A. Hatrick, Vaughan, McDonald, E. G. Roddy, G. Bignell, E. Cole, J. H.
