BREAKING-UP FUNCTIONS
THE CHRISTMAS VACATION | HAPPY CHILDREN LEAVE WORK School breaking-up functions to mark the close of the year’s work began 4 his week. Some primary schools celebrated the occasion yesterday, more will do likewise : to-day. Last night the Wanga- i nui Intermediate School held its j annual function, the speaker j being Dr. C. E. Beeby, M.A., , Director of the New Zealand | Council of Educational Research. To-night the annual prize-giving ceremony takes place at the Wanganui Girls* College, the speaker being the Rev. H. U. Newell, M.A., 8.D., of Wellington, and on Tuesday of next week, His Excellency, the Governor-General (Viscount Galway), will speak at , similar ceremonies at Nga Tawa j (Marton), St. George’s (Wanganui), and the Collegiate School. The usual atmosphere of happiness |vas present at yesterday's functions, ! pupils and teachers settling back to i the relaxation that is their due after a busy year. Owing to unfortunate , circumstances the school year just j ended was a short one, and in conse- , quence of that a good deal of work had to be crammed into a shorter period than usual.
