SETTLERS FOR AUSTRALIA

SIR A. ANDERSON’S OPINION LONDON, Dec. 15. Addressing the annual meeting of the Orient Company, Sir Alan Anderson said: "When the world returns to sanity and buys Australian butter, fruit and meat instead of guns, the demand for settlers will revive. He hoped that the Commonwealth would realise how cheaply migrants were carried. The Orient Company's revenue from passengers was only twothirds of that in 1928. They had hoped for record Coronation traffic, but at the last moment lost those who represent the margin of profit. Apparently they were deterred by reports of overcrowding in London and war scares in the Mediterranean.
