RAETIHI
gift evening. A bright and happy gathering was held at the Druids’ Hall on Saturday evening when some 50 friends of Miss Monica Riley and Mr. Ken Huddleston tendered them a gift evening. Mrs. J. Donnelly and Miss N. Anderson were the hostesses and their arrangements left nothing to be desired. Dancing and community singing comprised the entertainment of the evening. For this music was supplied by Messrs. Ron. Marks and O. T. Eade. Mr. R. B. Davies on behalf of those present, in a humorous speech, after referring to the popularity of the couple, extended to them best wishes for their future happiness. Both Miss Roley and Mr. Huddleston ably responded. The opening of the parcels revealed a wide range of most useful gifts. A feature of the evening was the dainty supper. Mr. George Anderson acted as M.C. RAETIHI TENNIS CLUB. VISIT TO TAIHAPE.
On Sunday last a team from the Raetihi Tennis Club made a visit to Taihape for the purpose of trying conclusions with representatives of the Taihape Tennis Club. The local players were greeted with rain as they approched Taihape, but the weather cleared sufficiently to enable about 20 matches to be determined. When play was finally abandoned to rain Taihape were leading by 13 sets to 9, with 11 matches unplayed. A full report will appear in the Taihape news. The following players represented Raetihi: Messrs. D. V. Sandford, F. A. Barker, J. S. Macdonald, H. P. Manson, J. A. Mcßride, H. V. Marshall, B. J. Brady and H. E. Dobson, Mesdames M. Towler, R. Smith and D. Sandford and the Misses R. Burrell, L. Eyes, T. Anderson, M. Manson and N. Goodman.
During the afternoon, Mr. Lyons, president of the Taihape Club, announced that Mr. de Latour (an expresident of the club) had presented a handsome trophy, which was on display, for competition between the Taihape, Raetihi, Ohakune, Mangaweka and Hunterville Clubs and also the Marton Club if the latter were willing to enter. This cup was not competed for on Sunday last and in the meantime is being held by the Taihape Club. CRICKET. RANGATAUA V. RAETIHI.
