AFRICAN PROTECTORATES
THE TRANSFER QUESTION. [ British Official Wireless.] ..UGBY, Nov. 23. Asked in the House of Commons whether, if and when the transfer of the protectorates of South Africa takes place, it will be done within the terms set out n uhe schedule of the South African Act, Lord Hartington, replying for the Dominions Secretary, said the British Government did not contemplate any departure from the general scheme of the administration of the Act and had no reason to think the Union Government desired to propose any such departure. Lord Hartington announced that at the request of the Government of Southern Rhodesia and after consultation with the Governments of Northern Rhodesia and Nyasaland, a Royal Commission would visit those territories to ascertain whether any form of closer co-operation or association between them was desirable and feasible with due regard to the interests of all the inhabitants and races and to the responsibilities of the British Government for the interests of the native inhabitants.
