TRAMPING NOTES OTAIHAPE ALPINE CLUB VISIT OF MR. OSCAR COBERGER A special meeting of the Otaihape Alpine Club was held at the residence of Mr. A. O. Wimsett in order to enable members to meet Mr. Oscar Coberger, of Arthur’s Pass (Canterbury), who had a selection of continental ski-ing and alpine equipment on display. Considerable interest was evinced in the gear and many evious eyes were focussed on a pair o£ high quality hickory skis. Mr. Coberger gave very helpful advice on the selection of equipment and supplemented his remarks with a brief but intensely interesting talk on the elements of ski-ing. Being a native of Switzerland and an expert skier, he was able to give members some very valuable hints in connection with the sport itself and how to avoid broken bones and other injuries, caused, he Isaid. “by doing things you shouldn’t Ido.’’ Mr. Darroch proposed a hearty vote o; thanks to Mr. Coberger for his ini nesting talk, the motion being carried by acclamation. Refi.shmcnts were then provided and members took the opportunity to bombard the guest of the evening with various aspects of winter sports.
