“OPPY’S” RIDE

PERTH TO STONEY WELCOME AT MELBOURNE WELL AHEAD OF RECORD. MELBOURNE, Nov. 16. Hubert Opperman, the well-known Australian cyclist, who is making a record-breaking ride from Perth to Sydney, a distance of 2751 miles, reached Melbourne at 5.30 P-m- today, having covered 2186 miles in 11 days. The record is held by Billy Read and is 18 days 18 hours. Thousands blocked the city streets on Opperman’s arrival as he rode to Parliament Steps, where he was welcomed by the Premier. After staying two hours Opperman left on the last lay toward Sydney.
