JUNIOR PILOT

APPOINTMENT AT WANGANUI CAPTAIN W. ROLLING, MASTER OF THE FOXTON. From 18 applicants Captain W. Rolling, master of the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company’s motor vessel Foxton, was appointed by the Wanganui Harbour Board to the position of junior pilot at Wanganui. Captain Rolling was born at Plymouth (England) and holds a foreign going master’s certificate. He served his apprenticeship with the Marine Navigation Company, of London and has served on various boats, for the last six and a-half years being employed by the Canterbury Steam Shipping Company, latterly in charge of the coastal vessel Foxton. Captain Rolling’s appointment will increase the pilot staff at Wanganui to permit the new award to operate and conform to the hours restrictions therein.
