AUCKLAND HOSPITAL

RADICAL CHANGES PLANNED CHAIRMANS NOTICES OF MOTION. [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Nov. 16. Radical changes in the administration of the Auckland Hospital were recommended to the Hospital Board by a special committee set up to consider the final points raised last year in the report on the organisation of the institution by Mr. G. Grey Campbell, public accountant. Among the suggestions was the appointment of a chief managerial executive at a high salary, and with the abolition of the oilice of medical superintendent at present held by Dr. Craven, the selection of a director of surgery and a director of medicine. Notices of motion which would give effect to the proposals were presented by the chairman, the Lev. W. C. Wood. However, strong arguments were adduced to defer consideration and it was decided, on the casting vote of the chairman, to discuss the question at the next meeting ot the ooard in committee. The notices of motion by the chairman were as follows: (1) That those employees of the board who have reached the retiring age or period be given three months’ notice of termination of their engagement, the board to consider the terms of their retirement at a meeting in committee on December 7. (2) That the Minister of Health be asked to approve of the appointment of a physician as medical director and a surgeon as surgical director at salaries of £l5OO per annum, rising to £2OOO at the end of one year. (3) That a resolution passed on September 29, 1936, fixing the salary of the proposed manager-secretary at £l2OO per annum, rising to £l5OO per annum by yearly increments of £lOO, be rescinded, and that the salary be fixed at £l5OO, rising to $2OOO at the end of one year.
