FAR EAST RELIEF FUND

LIST OPENED IN WANGANUI. The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. W. J. Rogers) is making an appeal to the citizens to support the Far East Relief fund which is being sponsored by the Order of St. John and the New Zealand Red Cross Society. His Worship has received a letter from Sir James Elliott, the chairman of the Relief Fund Committee, advising that its purpose is to alleviate distress, and care for the sick and wounded in China. “It is purposed to conduct a short, sharp appeal lasting four weeks,” Sir James has advised, “ending on November 30.” He states also that money is the first essential to furtherance of what the Appeal Committee has in mind and a sum of £lO,OOO by December 1, is being aimed at. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers have headed the Mayoral list with £2 and further contributions are invited. Subscriptions may be left either at the City Council office or at the “Chronicle.”
