TO RIDE WILLIE WIN
N.Z. JOCKEY FROM AUSTRALIA SYDNEY, Nov. 8. W. Jenkins, a New Zealand jockey who has been in Australia nearly three years, is returning to New Zealand on November 24. Ho will ride Willie Win in the Auckland Cup. APPEAL DISALLOWED TRAINER WHO BROKE ENGAGEMENT. JUDGES’ SUGGESTION. [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 8. Three Racing Conference judges— Messrs. T. H. Lowry, T. E. Coates, and H. L. Nathan—heard P. T. Hogan’s appeal against the Canterbury District Committee upholding the decision of the Ashburton County Racing Club, and ordering him to pay a losing fee for breaking an engagement with R. J. Mackie to ride Dunstan. The judges are of opinion that when the trainer engaged a jockey to ride, subject to the owner’s approval, it was the duty of the trainer to ascertain at the earliest possible moment whether the owner approves and immediately advise the jockey concerned instead of waiting till the day of the race before acquainting the jockey with the owner’s decision. Later, in a supplementary announcement, the judges announced that they had disallowed the appeal.
