Alma had charge at the distance from Laughing Lass, Brunhild, Ben Braggie, Paper Slipper and Rebel Chief. Alma stayed on to win by a length and a-half from Brunhild, with Laughing Lass a head away. Prospects For To-day. The meeting will be continued today, when the New Zealand Derby will be one of the outstanding events. It will provide the long-expected test between Royal Chief and Smoke Screen over a distance, and in spite of the fact that form points to Royal Chief his rival should not be far away at the finish.
