DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB Weather conditions were favourable for shooting on Saturday afternoon, but there was only a fair attendance of members owing to the show in I Falmerston North. Scores were as follow, the ranges being 300 and 600 ! yards:—H. Meads 42, 49—91; R. B. McKenzie 44. 47—91; D. P. Thorby 46, 45—91; F. Simpson 41, 45—86. GENERAL NEWS Mr T. H. Radd, of Christchurch, an erstwhile Bulls resident, is visiting Bulls at present. The annual rose and iris show will be held in the Town Hall to-day, the doors opening at 2 p.m. PAREWANUI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The monthly, meeting of the Parewanui Women’s Institute was held on November 3, Mrs H. F. Russell presiding over a fair attendance of members. Routine business over, after an Aen discussion it was decided to hold . Christmas tree party for children
of the district on Friday, December 17. The motto for the month was: “Be a live wire and you won’t be trodden on.” After a sing song and the usual welcome cup of tea, a very interesting demonstration on Italian quilting was given by Mrs M. Homes, who also judged the competition for the best cotton summer frock (worn by the competitors). As all were well made, it was no easy task awarding the prize, the result being: Miss E. Russell 1, Mrs H. F. Russell 2, Mrs W. Klatt and Mrs Whitehead 3, equal. A social afternoon will take the place of a demonstration at the December meeting, and the competition will be for the best collection or flowers arranged in a bowl.
