LAMB FOR EXPORT
THE BUYING SCHEDULE OPENING AT 93d EXPECTED HASTINGS, Nov. 4. Although not olficially announced, it is understood the schedule at the works for new season’s lamb will open at 93d per lb. Farmers in general were anticipating that the opening price would be at least lOd per lb. Supplies are coming forward slowly, as farmers are holding on in order to add weight to their first pick. Many lambs killed so far average fully ,31b. lighter than the early-killed lots last season. This is due to lack of inside fat, although the lambs, before being killed, have quite & plump appearance. In anticipation of catching the London Christmas season, a shipment of lamb will leave Napier next Monday by the Karamea. Killing at the Tomoana and
Whakatu freezing works has been in progress all this week, and indications are that there will be considerably fewer lambs available this year than was the case last year. The decline is attributed to the poor/conditions prevailing early in the season. The quality of the. lambs coming forward, however, is excellent, even though the average weight is only 301 b., as against 331 b. last year
