THEFT OF RADIO SETS
A MECHANIC’S OFFENCE [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. A request that he be sentenced to a term of hard labour as reformative detention had not done him any good was made by John Henry Gill, aged 37, mechanic, after pleading guilty at the Police Court to nine charges of stealing eight radio s»ts and a converter, valued at £l3l, from eight city firms between July and September. In a statement accused alleged that the second-hand dealer to whom he sold the sets knew they were stolen, telling Gill that he take as many radio sets as he could bring along. Gill was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour. When an application was made by the police for an o.rder to be made for the return of the radio sets, Mr. Wyvern Wilson said that the police should retain the seis and investigate the allegation made against the second-hand dealer.
