DISTRESSING ACCIDENT
YOUNG WOMAN S DEATH [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, Oct. 28. A distressing accident resulting u. the death of a young woman occurred in the Kaikorai Valley a few minutes after noon to-day. The victim was Louisa May McCarthy, aged 23, of Tyne Street, Roslyn. She was employed as a machinist in the Roslyn Mills. Just after the 12 o’clock whistles blew she came running out of the main’ gates opening on the mill grounds and rushing across the road passed behind a lorry proceeding in a southerly direction. Apparently she did not realise the presence of another lorry belonging to E. and L. Duff, contractors, of Mornington, coming along the valley in the opposite direction. This lorry struck her. knocking her over and carrying her a distance of 40ft. She sustained terrible injuries and one wheel passed over her head. She died a few minutes later. The body was removed to the morgue, where an inquest will be held.
