GERMAN SUBMARINE
SUNK BY BRITISH WARSHIP SPANISH PRESS REPORT (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Oct. 26, 7.55 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 26. A Spanish press agency claims on authoritative information that the British destroyer Basilisk sank the German submarine U 24 with depth charges after an attack off Cape San Antonio. The German Government, on October 12, notified the parents of the crew that the submarine had sunk during manoeuvres and ordered that the advice be kept secret. Officials in Berlin state that they do not take the story seriously, recalling the British denial on October 9 that there was no attack and no submarine sunk. They declare that the submarine is still in service.
