MASTERTON MEETING
GOOD CARD AT OPAKI REVIEW OF PROSPECTS A valuable form line on next week’s Trentham meeting will be provided by the Masterton Racing Club’s spring fixture at the Opaki course to-day and Saturday. Good fields are engaged in all but the two open races, and even in each of these there are seven acceptors. All Indications are in the direction of a successful meeting, and such the Masterton Club deserves. The totalisator '.•ill be operated on the tingle-pool system. " The Opaki course is a splendid testing ground, undoubtedly one of the best in the Dominion. It is li miles round, with a three-furlong straight, and the going there in the spring is nearly always firm and good. Horses who race well at Masterton have often been seen in a similarly favourable light at Trentham and a little later also at the New Zealand Cup meeting. Two years ago Cuddle, who went on to win the New Zealand Cup and later the Auckland Cup, opened her season’s racing by winning the principal event on the first day; and a year earlier Gold Trail, after being third each day at Masterton, won the next week at Trentham, finished second to Steeton in the New Zealand Cup. In Gold Trail s year, Might, winner of the handicap on the second day at Masterton, also won at Trentham and was third in the New Zealand Cup; last-year this gelding was second each day and was probably unlucky in not doing much better than fourth in the New Zealand Cup. The following should be in request in their respective engagements today:— Nursery Handicap. Pearless, Screen Lord, Colfort. Lansdowne Handicap. Rotoma, Alunga, Son and Heir. Highweight Handicap. —Trackman, Shv, Pladie. Maiden Stakes.—Girl Pat, Colin, Sigurd. Masterton Handicap. Might, Pukeko. Grandstand Handicap. Pakanui, Brunhild. Lawn Handicap.—Taro, Royal Record, Lucullus Lad. Electric Handicap.—Liane, Lady Siegfried, Galteemore. Following is the list of acceptors:— 12.5 J’URSERY HANDICAP (Of £65 ; four furlongs.)
