WANGANUI SHOW

MEETING OF COMMITTEE GENERAL BUSINESS DEALT WITH A meeting of the general committee of the Wanganui Agricultural Association was held yesterday, Mr. W. Craig presiding over a good al.endance. Miss N. A. Polson and Mr. R. G. Martin, were elected members. The K.S.A. applied for free space for sale of art union tickets, which was granted, as also r. as a similar application from the Blind Institute. Funds.—The treasurer reported that the balances at the bank were as follows: —General account, £227 12s 2d; ouilding fund, £422 12s 3d. Accounts totalling £56 5s 2d were passed for payment. Mr. E. O’Meara was appointed chief gate steward for the November show. It was decided to dispose of a quantity of timber and roofing iron by public auction, the proceeds to be credited to the building fund. Working bees are to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 26 and 27, to carry out the work of erecting sheep and pig pens and to get the grounds in order for the show. Messrs Craig, Baldwin and McNab were appointed to attend the Hawke’s Bay Show to canvass for entries and Messrs. Forde, Mitchell, Baldwin and Masters will attend the Royal Show at Palmerston North for- the same purpose. President’s Report. "Since our last meeting a considerable amount of repair work has been carried out to the association's property on the Racecourse,’’ stated the president in his report. "The roof of the home industries building has been repaired and painted, the dog pavilion has been renovated, tne cattle pavilions have been re-rofted and the cattle pens have been repaired. The cost of this work has been met out of the building fund in which we still have a credit of £422. The work done in this connection is of a permanent nature, and was absolutely necessary to enable us to properly house our exhibits. 1 think members will agree that this expenditure is justified, as for many years our property on the Racecourse was neglected. Further expenditure will be required later, but .oilowing our practice of safeguarding the limited funds at our disposal, I the committee are only undertaking i essential improvements. It is pleasing to note that members’ subscriptions are coming to hand up to expectations, the number received to dace being well in advance of previous years. The home industries building is now being prepared for the show by Mr. P. S. Latham, who has been an indefatigable worker for many years. Our Honorary stewards for this section have been increased this year, and in addition to Mr. T. L. Sperring, Mr. A. G. Waghorne and Mr. A. c. Sievevvright have been adedd. The Farm Equipment display will have as stewards Messrs. F. Bethwaite and E. Poynter—Messrs. Waghorne, Bethwaite and Poynter representing the Rotary Club in this connection, and our thanks are extended to them for their co-operation. “Entries.—lt will be a great help to the staff if the chief stewards in each department will canvass for entries before the closing date, 27th. instant, in an endeavour to get a record number of entries.’’
