GOOD PROGRESS

A. AND P. SHOW COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMME Progress reports received to date indicate that the forthcoming Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s Show, to be held at the Wanganui Racecourse on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 9 and 10, is likely to exceed all expectations as far as entries are concerned, whilst the applications for space in the side show area, the motor traders’ exhibition, and the farm equipment displays are also a record. A remarkable improvement in the home industries competitions is confidently anticipated as a result of the activities of an enthusiastic committee of lady helpers. With record entries in every section, and the likelihood of a greater-than-ever aggregation of novelty shows in the side show section, besides the wood chopping competitions and the horse jumping events, the patrons of the show will have a wonderful day’s outing. The layout of the show this year enables a complete change to be effected. The pig section will be shown on Spriggens Park; the cattle section remains in the permanent buildings and yards, which have been extended and improved; the sheep section is to be accommodated on the space usually occupied by the sideshowmen; the farm equipment display will be shown opposite the outside grandstand; the motor-car display will be located on the ornamental grounds; and the side shows will be congregated on the recently enlarged motor parking area. This layout will enable patrons to view each section of the show in turn without the unpleasant congestion which has been noticed in the past shows. The wood chopping competitions will be held opposite the main grandstand, and as the competitions in this section have been almost doubled ana have created interest all over the North Island, spectacular performances are expected. The catering arrangements this year are in the experienced hands of Dustins, Ltd., while the Wanganui Aerated Water Company will supply drinks and dainties from speciallybuilt stalls. The interior of the home industries building is being renovated and will present an attractive display by local business firms, besides housing the entries for the many competitions in the home industries section.

It is most gratifying to find such keen interest being manifested in this annual show, which is now in its 68th. year, and no doubt those who attend the general meeting, called for today will voice their appreciation of the progress being made. Breeders and exhibitors are . reminded that entries for the various sections close on Wednesday, October 27, and that it will assist the ollicers of the association if they forward their entries before that date.
